In 2012, 13 children in a rural Bangladesh community have been killed due to acute encephalitis syndrome (AES). AES occurred as a result of excessive and improper applications of insecticides and other agriculture chemicals in local fruit orchards. AES is a condition that is often associated with deadly inflammation of the brain.
